Lympne’s very own gifted
virtuoso violinist Markus Lawrenson, is giving his talent and time to raise
money for the ITU, William Harvey Hospital. He is joined on piano by Stephen
Ellis.
The soloist,
Markus Lawrenson, was catapulted into the Premier-League of music when he won a
Junior Exhibition to the Royal Academy of Music, London. In competition with
hand-picked, gifted young musicians from around the world, he then won a coveted
place and major scholarship at the International Purcell School of Music,
London, under the Presidency of Sir Simon Rattle. There, he was educated and
trained in all of the diverse music skills. Markus gained his BMus (Hons)
degree at the Royal College of Music, London, where he was taught by the famous
Israeli violinist, Yossi Zivoni, and renowned virtuoso American violinist,
Dona-Lee Croft.
Markus has
performed numerous solo recitals and has broadcast both on Classic FM and the
BBC. At the Barbican,
London, Markus performed one of his own compositions, in the presence of Pierre
Boulez. Markus has freelanced with many Orchestras; performing, broadcasting
and recording from the Albert Hall and many other prestigious venues. He has
scored, recorded and played with various pop and rock groups and also led pit
orchestras by invitation in London production musicals.
His greatest honour to date,
was to be selected into a small privileged group of musicians, to play in
Buckingham Palace, for Prince Charles.
Stephen Ellis
studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Alexander Kelly and
Rex Stephens where he graduated with honours and was awarded prizes for piano
accompaniment. He now performs regularly throughout the United Kingdom and
internationally, and has worked with such distinguished singers as Arleen Auger
and the famous soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopff in her masterclass series at the
Wigmore Hall in London. He has also been closely associated with the renowned
theatre company 'Opera Circus' and as pianist/musical director, has toured
throughout the world taking part in festivals and giving educational workshops.
Apart from his
performances, Stephen has considerable experience as a piano teacher working
with all ages and levels in his private practice and in music colleges.
He works
regularly for the ABRSM as both examiner, trainer and moderator in this country
and extensively abroad. Since adjudicating at the Hong Kong Schools Music
Festival, Stephen has been in frequent demand as a festival adjudicator. Tours
this year take Stephen to Belgium, USA and Canada, South Africa and Spain.
